Biographical Details
James
(Jim) R. Tweedy was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 1965 and
graduated from Puxico High School in 1983. He attended the
University of Missouri for his undergraduate and graduate degrees,
earning a B.S. in Agricultural Economics in 1987 and a J.D. in 1989.
Upon graduation, Mr. Tweedy returned to Southeast Missouri and began his
legal career at Oliver, Oliver, Waltz & Cook, P.C., a firm that handled
primarily insurance defense matters. After approximately four years with
The Oliver Firm, Jim returned to his Stoddard-County roots and
opened Tweedy Law Office in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Jim maintains a general civil practice, which includes adoptions,
juvenile, probate, estate planning, collection, business and domestic
matters, as well as a general criminal defense practice, which includes
minor traffic matters in addition to serious felony criminal charges.
Locally, Jim is an extremely active member of the community. He has
served as the local District Representative to the Young Lawyers
Section Council of The Missouri Bar, President of the Stoddard County
Bar Association, as well as President of the University of Missouri Ag
Alumni Association. Jim also served many years on the Board of
Directors for Southeast Missouri Legal Services, Inc., including one
term as President, an entity which provides free legal services to
qualifying individuals. He has also served as Chairman of the
Board of Directors of Center for Family Resources, Inc. Currently, Jim
is the Fund-Raising Chairman of the Stoddard County Children’s Home,
Inc., an organization that he has been involved deeply with since 1995.
While maintaining a tremendous reputation in Southeast Missouri, Jim has
also been recognized at the state level. In May of 2008, Missouri
Governor Matt Blunt appointed him to serve a four-year term as a
Commissioner of the Missouri Ethics Commission. He served as
Vice-Chairman for his last two years on the Commission.
Jim is passionate about solving problems and has all the necessary tools to tackle any task throw his way.
